PAKISTAN v SRI LANKA Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1994
At Sharjah, February 4. Pakistan won by 114 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka. Pakistan's batsmen outscored the Sri Lankans the previous day with 281 from just 41 overs, setting their opponents 6.87 an over to win. Sri Lanka were never in the hunt. Every match in the tournament had featured a century opening stand, but Saeed Anwar and Ramiz Raja did even better, putting on 204 in 34 overs to beat their own one-day record for Pakistan's first wicket: 202, also against Sri Lanka, at Adelaide in 1989–90. Anwar made his 110 from 105 balls and Ramiz his 109 from 115. Wasim Akram again quickly removed Sri Lankan opener Mahanama lbw for nought and trapped three more victims the same way to finish with an analysis of four for 24 for the second game running. Man of the Match: Saeed Anwar. Man of the Series: Wasim Akram. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
