SRI LANKA v INDIA 1993-94
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1995

At Khettarama Stadium, Colombo, August 12 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by eight runs. Toss: India.

The first floodlit match between the two countries drew the biggest crowd of the tour, thought to be about 40,000. As in the earlier game at Khettarama, a team apparently coasting to victory was bowled out in the final over. This time it was India. Despite ten wides by Kapil Dev, the Indians had restricted Sri Lanka's middle order until Ranatunga's run-a-ball 50 and Kalpage lifted the momentum.

Though Sidhu went second ball, a target of 4.1 an over seemed the simplest thing as Prabhakar and Azharuddin put on 136. An over-ambitious shot by Azharuddin ended that stand, but India needed only 30 runs from eight overs with seven wickets in hand when Prabhakar holed out. The batting immediately plunged into disarray, and occasional off-spinner De Silva finished the job with four balls remaining.

Man of the Match: A. Ranatunga.
