SRI LANKA v SOUTH AFRICA 1993-94 Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1995
At Khettarama Stadium, Colombo, September 4 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by 44 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka. International debut: R. P. A. H. Wickremaratne. For the second time in 48 hours the toss proved crucial: South Africa collapsed almost as spectacularly as Sri Lanka had done two nights before. The main damage was done by Ramanayake who, on his recall to the side, swung the ball prodigiously and took three of the first four wickets. After he had ripped the heart out of the innings the tourists were 103 for nine and poised for their lowest one-day total before Snell and De Villiers added 51, a South African last-wicket record. For Sri Lanka, De Silva played the anchor role with only one four in his unbeaten 61. With a large playing surface and a spongy outfield, Khettarama yielded only 20 fours in four innings. Man of the Match: C. P. H. Ramanayake. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
