SOUTH AFRICA v AUSTRALIA 1993-94
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1995

At Port Elizabeth, April 4 (day/night). South Africa won by 26 runs. Toss: South Africa.

A floodlight failure delayed Australia's innings and they eventually had to bat with two banks of lights on diminished power. South Africa's 227 for six included fine half-centuries from Hudson and Rhodes, who put on 105 in 20 overs, and the victory looked secure when the top seven Australian batsmen scored only 67 between them. But Warne joined Reiffel at 77 for seven to share a one-day international record of 119 for the eighth wicket, taking Australia unexpectedly close to victory. Both batsmen hit selectively for their fifties, and only a narrow run-out ended the partnership and clinched the match for the relieved South Africans.

Man of the Match: J. N. Rhodes.
