Pakistan tour date

ARIF ABBASI, chief executive of the Pakistan Cricket  Board,  has
confirmed  plans  for  a  full  tour  by England in 1999. He also
talked of his hopes for a brighter cricketing future between Eng-
land  and  Pakistan,  eight  years  after the ill-fated 1987 trip
which included the row between umpire Shakoor  Rana  and  England
captain Mike Gatting in Faisalabad.

Abbasi, who met the England A tourists at a reception last night,
said:  "I  have a very good rapport with A C Smith [of the TCCB],
and we have agreed on a tour in 1999.  Undoubtedly the   business
with  Shakoor held things up but recently it was a matter of try-
ing to find space in our diaries."
