SRI LANKA v PAKISTAN 1994-95
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1996

At R. Premadasa (formerly Khettarama) Stadium, Colombo, August 3 (day/night). Pakistan won by nine wickets, their target having been revised to 169 from 42 overs. Toss: Sri Lanka. International debut: S. Ranatunga.

Opener Saeed Anwar hit an explosive 70 off 83 balls as Pakistan raced home. He might have made his fifth one-day hundred against Sri Lanka if rain had not cut eight overs from Pakistan's innings and reduced their target to 169 – which they achieved with nearly 12 overs in hand. Anwar began with a mixture of aggression and caution, but he and Inzamam-ul-Haq ploughed into the bowling, knocking off 98 in 17 overs after Aamir Sohail had fallen to Muralitharan's off-spin for a rapid 38. The only other highlight for a partisan crowd of 40,000 was a one-day international career-best 77 from makeshift opener Jayasuriya, who put on 86 with debutant Sanjeeva Ranatunga.

Man of the Match: Saeed Anwar.
