WEST INDIES v AUSTRALIA 1994-95
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1996

At Georgetown, March 18. West Indies won by five wickets. Toss: Australia.

Australia's euphoria on scoring their highest one-day total against West Indies did not last long. The home side reeled in 287 with 2.4 overs to spare, thanks to run-a-ball half-centuries from Adams, Simmons and Hooper. Mark Waugh's sublime 70 off 56 balls looked like a down payment on victory, but not even the willing support of Taylor could put Australia out of reach.

On the flint-hard surface of his home ground, Hooper's sweet timing, from full-faced drives to rubber-wristed deflections, left the Australians wondering how they would contain him in the Tests. His straight six off Steve Waugh carried over the press box roof to smash the windscreen of a Mercedes outside the ground. Meanwhile, Simmons welcomed Julian to the tour with a brutal 6446 off successive balls.

Man of the Match: C. L. Hooper.
