AUSTRALIA v PAKISTAN Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1996
At Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo, September 7. Australia won by 28 runs. Toss: Pakistan. Australia, in their first match since April, performed creditably to defeat a Pakistani team ending a triumphant tour of Sri Lanka. Though Mark Taylor, now captain in his own right, was one of four out for 49, the later batsmen fought back. Pakistan looked like extending their winning sequence while Saeed Anwar and Inzamam-ul-Haq were adding 75. But once Inzamam was stumped and Anwar forced off by a strained hamstring, they fell behind. Warne and Steve Waugh proved difficult to get away on a moist, sluggish pitch and Asif Mujtaba, who split his finger while fielding, batted only to prevent his side being bowled out. Man of the Match: S. K. Warne. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
