PAKISTAN v AUSTRALIA
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1996

At Lahore, October 30. Australia won by 64 runs. Toss: Pakistan. International debut: P. A. Emery.

New South Wales batting – represented by six of Australia's top seven – gave the tourists the initial advantage, and a seventh player from the state, the young fast bowler McGrath, ensured them the tournament prize. He took five for 52, including three wickets in ten balls in his second spell, after Fleming had dismissed both Pakistan openers. A run-a-ball 63 by Basit Ali failed to lift the home team. Salim Malik had the personal satisfaction of reaching 5,000 runs in his 199th limited-overs international, but was criticised for putting Australia in to bat on a good pitch. Slater and Taylor gave Australia the perfect start, with 121 at more than five an over, and Bevan scored an unbeaten 53 off 42 balls to take them to 269, the highest total of the series. Steve Waugh injured his shoulder and missed the final Test in Lahore.

Man of the Match: G. D. McGrath.
