INDIA v NEW ZEALAND Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1996
At Baroda, October 28. India won by seven wickets. Toss: New Zealand. A slow pitch at the small IPCL ground was ideal for batting: Rutherford reached his maiden hundred in his 103rd one-day international, only to be trumped when Tendulkar returned to form with 115. Rutherford scored at more than a run a ball and hit 13 fours, while Parore, who helped him add 180, made 96 without a boundary hit. Restored to open, Tendulkar was dropped on eight, bided his time in a 144-run stand with Prabhakar, and then broke out in a flurry of shots. He hit nine fours and three sixes in 136 balls. Though he was run out when Azharuddin's straight drive ricocheted off Nash's hands on to the stumps, victory was a near-formality. Man of the Match: S. R. Tendulkar. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
