NEW ZEALAND v SRI LANKA
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1996

At Bloemfontein, December 8 (day/night). No result. Toss: Sri Lanka. International debut: L. K. Germon.

A thunderstorm denied Sri Lanka probable victory after an explosive innings from Jayasuriya. He took the New Zealand attack apart – with the exception of Pringle, who bowled with great intelligence – hammering six sixes, each sailing further than the last. Remarkably, he had been stranded on 21 for seven overs, but went on to his maiden hundred in one-day internationals, finishing with 140 in 143 balls, the highest ever limited-overs score for Sri Lanka. Century stands with Gurusinha and De Silva helped his team to 288. But torrential rain flooded Springbok Park an hour into New Zealand's innings.
