SOUTH AFRICA v NEW ZEALAND
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1996

At Verwoerdburg, December 11. South Africa won by 81 runs. Toss: South Africa.
South Africa recalled Callaghan and promoted him to open, with sensational effect: he thundered out the fifth-highest score in limited-overs internationals. Despite offering a chance in the first over, he devastated New Zealand's bowling in a sustained assault of 19 fours and four sixes. His unbeaten 169 took 143 balls and carried South Africa past 300 for the first time in one-day cricket. In reply, Parore hit 108 from 95 balls like Callaghan's, his maiden hundred at this level but, after he lost Thomson, New Zealand posed no threat and were bowled out with nearly ten overs left.
Man of the Match:D. J. Callaghan.
