AUSTRALIA v INDIA Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1996
Toss: Australia. International debut: P. S. Vaidya. Australia's only defeat of the tournament and India's only win had no effect on their placings, with the one safely qualified for the final and the other out of the running. Ponting scored his maiden international half-century and Mark Waugh hit 48 in 32 balls to spearhead a solid Australian batting effort of five runs an over. But India's top order finally rediscovered their batting form to overhaul them with 13 balls to spare. Prabhakar and Tendulkar gave them a blazing start, Sidhu anchored the innings and Kambli brought up victory and his fifty off the 56th ball he received. The dreaded Warne cost more than six an over without picking up a wicket. Man of the Match: N. S. Sidhu. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
