BANGLADESH v SRI LANKA
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1996

At Sharjah, April 6. Sri Lanka won by 107 runs. Toss: Bangladesh. International debuts: Habibul Bashar, Hasibul Hossain.

After losing Gurusinha first ball and Mahanama in the fourth over, Sri Lanka were put back on course by Jayasuriya and De Silva, who added 71 before Jayasuriya left the field, suffering from dehydration. Ranatunga then reached 71 at a run a ball, putting on 93 with Tillekeratne. Both perished in the final assault and Bangladesh had the satisfaction of bowling out a Test side for the first time, with medium-pacer Saif-ul-Islam claiming four. But they made little attempt to pursue 234. No-one passed 26 and Vaas conceded only nine in seven overs.

Man of the Match: A. Ranatunga.
