PPC to provide cement pitches

by Vida Tong, 10 October 1996

A R1,1-million project aimed at providing over 140 cement pitches and nets at 90 locations throughout the country was launched at St Angela`s School in Dobsonville yesterday.

The project is backed by PPC Cement and aims to provide cement pitches, topped with fibre-glass and carpet, which should do service for many years for development cricketers in South Africa`s underprivileged areas.

"The pitches should provide good, even bounce which is a prere- quisite for learning the game," said United Cricket Board MD Ali Bacher. "But this project is really about the RDP. It`s more than just bats and balls."
