9 September 1996 Axa Equity and Law Sunday League round up: Trescothick cashes in to lift Somerset hopes SOMERSET maintained their interest in Sunday League prize money after their fifth successive victory in the competition lifted them to joint fourth in the table. They had Marcus Trescothick's unbeaten 61 to thank for their 12-run victory over Derbyshire at Taunton which gives them an excellent chance of finishing in the money - Ł5,000 goes to the fourth-placed side. Trescothick, usually an opener but coming in at No 6, was largely responsible for raising Somerset to 221 for five from their 40 overs. Derbyshire looked well set at 152 for one, with Dean Jones making 81, but the middle order were panicked into submission by off-spinner Harvey Trump (three for 41) and seamer Jason Kerr (two for 23). _________________________________________________________________ Graeme Hick made his first half-century for five weeks but Worcestershire still lost to Sussex by 29 runs at New Road. Sussex all-rounder Rajesh Rao, 21, had Hick caught off a full toss with his second ball in Sunday League cricket. He finished with three for 31 as Worcestershire slumped to 187 for nine after hitting 59 from 78 balls in Sussex's 216 for nine. _________________________________________________________________ Steve James and David Hemp put together a match-winning stand of 136 for the second wicket to enable Glamorgan to defeat Hampshire at Southampton. James hit 91 and Hemp was 64 not out when Glamorgan clinched victory by seven wickets with seven balls to spare. Hampshire chose to bat first and opening batsmen Giles White was top scorer with 55 in a total of 220 for seven. A partnership of 38 in four overs between Klaas van Noortwijk and man-of-the-match Asim Khan carried Holland to a three-wicket victory over Yorkshire in the McCain Challenge at the Scarborough Festival.
