WISDEN, the cricketers' bible in its latest edition has given prominance to the 'Daily News' and a comment by its Sports Editor and to writings by other Sri Lankans connected with cricket.

WISDEN 1997 has reproduced the observation made by ELMO RODRIGOPULLE, Sports Editor with regard to the World Cup cricket tournament held in the sub-continent which states ...

''Sri Lanka who were given a horror time in Australia during the World Series games, proved that they are the rightful champions and that given neutral umpires they could beat any team in the world.

A ditty by PREMNATH MORAES 'THE LION ROARS' has also been reproduced.

GERRY WAIDYASEKERA is the Sri Lanka correspondent of WISDEN and he has written a piece - SRI LANKA: YEARS OF PREPARATION ...

Among the contributors to Wisden is SA'ADI THAWFEEQ, the 'Daily News' Cricket correspondent who has written a piece - CRICKET IN SRI LANKA, 1995-96 along with WAIDYASEKERA.

It is interesting to note that the four Sri Lankan writers are all old boys of St. Benedict's College, Kotahena.
