Sri Lanka cricket team's next international assignment is a Quadrangular one-day tournament in Pakistan in October/November to coincide with Pakistan's Golden Jubilee Independence celebrations. The other two sides competing are South Africa and West Indies.

Sri Lanka will then undertake a tour of India for three Tests and three one-day internationals in December, but the final itinerary has yet to be finalised.

Zimbabwe will be touring Sri Lanka in January next year (1998) and they will be engaged in two Tests and three one-day internationals.

Sri Lanka will then be touring South Africa in February for two Tests, and will also be involved in a Triangular one-day tournament with South Africa and Pakistan too after the two Tests.

Cricketers from the famed Australian Cricket Academy will be touring Sri Lanka in September for three four-day games and three one-day matches.
