Old Antonians in 5-wkt win

A POWER packed knock of 86 with 5 sixers and 4 fours by Antonian schoolboy Manjula Chitrasena helped Old Antonians Sports Club to score a fine five-wicket win over their traditional rivals Old Trinitians Sports Club in their Division III cricket tournament match played at Katugastota on Sunday.

The Old Trinitians taking first lease of the wicket off to an unsteady start and were 83 for 5 at one stage before Narendra Ekanayake hit an aggressive 54 with 2 fours to give some respectability to the total.

When the Antonians batted it was a delightful stand of 122 for the fourth wicket between Manjula Chithrasena and Amila Pinnaduwa (55) with 3 fours which put them in the box seat.

Old Trinitians SC 185 all out in 47 overs (S. Gamage 12, Angus Jayasena 38, R. de Raffayal 12, Narendra Ekanayake 54, C. Vanderkoon 17, M. Abeyratne 3 for 42, A. S. Pinnaduwa 2 for 31, N. Ferdinands 2 for 16, Zareen Hameed 3 for 39).

Old Antonians SC 187 for 5 in 46 overs (Manjula Chithrasena 86, M. Abeyratne 15, A. Pinnaduwa 55).

Old Uvites vs Badulla Maroons final

OLD UVITES Sports Club qualified for the finals of the Badulla District League cricket tournament when they beat Sri Lanka Air Force, Diyatalawa by 6 wickets in their limited overs semi-final played recently at the Badulla Esplanade.

Sri Lanka Air Force batting first scored 124 runs in 27 overs while Old Uvites SC made the required runs losing 4 wickets in 24.3 overs.

M. A. Saujah who scored a solid 60 runs also captured 3 wickets for 24 runs to give Old Uvites SC a hard fought victory.

Old Uvites SC will now meet Badulla Maroons Sports Club in the final at the Badulla Esplanade.

Sri Lanka Air Force 124 (S. Kapila 34, M. A. Saujah 3 for 24, M. Huzair 2 for 6 and Jeewsantha Ratnayake 2 for 27).

Old Uvites SC 125 for 4 (M. A. Saujah 60, M. Huzair 27 not out, and D. Soysa 12 not out).

Liverpool CC - 6 wkt win

LIVER POOL CC, Kandy scored a six-wicket win over newly formed Digana Cricket Club in their division III cricket tournament match played in Kandy.

Digana CC 98 all out in 38.4 overs (M. Mizran 13, S. Desmond 29, P. Pradeep 21, P. Indika 3 for 22, D. Arnold 2 for 12).

Liver Pool CC 99 for 4 in 16.2 overs (M. Fahim 34, S. Gunasekera 44 not out, M. Mizran 4 for 36).

Catamarans win on faster run-rate

CATAMARANS recorded their fourth successive win when they beat Anhilators SC on a faster run-rate in a division three cricket match at the Moratuwa Stadium yesterday.

Anhilators SC 135 for 8 in 48 overs (R. Jayasuriya 37, R. Martinesz 2 for 21).

Catamarans SC 115 for 5 off 30 overs (Rupanath Wickremaratne 28 n.o., R. Martinesz 31).

Bloomfield beat BRC by 17 runs

BLOOMFIELD beat BRC by 17 runs after their BCCSL limited-over game was restricted to 39 overs at Havelock Park yesterday. Bloomfield made 172 for 9 in 45 overs, but when BRC were 97 for 5 in 21.5 overs, rain restricted the overs further to 39 and the victory target was 149. At close BRC, were all out for 131 and their No. 11 batsman Mohan Perera was unable to take the field as he was hospitalised.

Sanath Jayasuriya top-scored for Bloomfield with 43 with six boundaries, while another Sri Lanka cricketer Kumara Dharmasena making an unbeaten 36.

Bloomfield: 172 for 9 in 45 overs (Sanath Jayasuriya 43, S. Perera 21, Kumara Dharmasena not out 36, H. Boteju 12, Priyankara Wickremasinghe 12, D. Rajapakse 3 for 19, S. Madanayake 2 for 22, A. Ranaweera 2 for 25).

BRC: 131 in 33.4 overs (Chintaka Jayasinghe 36, Dhammika Rajapakse 11, Sidath Tennekoon 30, A. Ranaweera 11, Priyankara Wickremasinghe 2 for 22, K. Dharmasena 2 for 18, R. L. Perera 2 for 28, Sanath Jayasuriya 2 for 4).

Good entries for div III tourney

RECORD number of entries have been received for the Badulla District division III limited over cricket tournament organised by the Board of Control for cricket in Sri Lanka.

Twenty teams will view for top honours this year at Badulla.

At the recently conducted committee meeting of the Badulla D.C.A. presided over by its president R. M. U. Ratnayake, it was unanimously decided to conduct the tournament in eight groups in order to complete the tournament to schedule.

The teams have been grouped as:

Group 'A' - Maroons SC 'A', Kingston SC and Systiya SC.

Group 'B' - Badulla CC, Passara SC and Cosmo SC Bandarawela.

Group 'C' - Old Uvites SC, Bandarwela SC and Old Thomain SC.

Group 'D' - Veal's Park SC, Maroons SC 'B' and Kandegedera SC.

Group 'E' - Saraa SC and Swasakthi SC.

Group 'F' - Phillakade SC and Uva Regional Transport Board SC.

Group 'G' - Cosmo SC (Whites) and Albions SC.

Group 'H'' - Sri Lanka Air Force Diayatalawa and Hali Ela SC.

The encounter between Hali Ela SC and Sri Lanka SC will be played at Diyatalawa grounds and all other matches will be played at the Badulla Esplanade.

The winners of each group will meet in the finals in this limited 50 over tournament which expected to be completed before the year ends.
