PAKISTAN v WEST INDIES Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1997
At Sharjah, October 13. Pakistan won by 15 runs. Toss: Pakistan. Pakistan started slowly, and Ramiz Raja scored three in his first 31 balls. But his next 101 runs took only 103, and he put on 141 in 29 overs with Basit Ali. The tour de force came from Moin Khan: he smashed 27 in ten balls and hit the last three balls of the innings for six. Bishop went for 27 in that final over, equalling the record conceded by Muralitharan to Pakistan in Colombo 14 months before. Several West Indian batsmen made good starts, but they threw away a promising halfway position of 124 for three. Pakistan's second straight victory was West Indies' second defeat and seemed to settle the identity of the finalists. Man of the Match: Ramiz Raja. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
