Green faces operation

LANCASHIRE's promising paceman Richard Green may need an operation on the foot injury which has destroyed his bid for an England A place.

Green was waiting for the medical verdict today, fearing that an op would put him out for another month, effectively ruining his entire season.

``It has been extremely disappointing - my target this season was to earn a place on the England A tour in the winter,'' he admitted.

Green took 22 wickets in seven matches last season, and was aiming to build on that this year. But, after playing in Lancashire's Benson and Hedges Cup qualifiers, he went down with the injury which was originally thought to be ankle ligament damage. But now it appears to be a bone problem.

Green has hardly bowled since the B and H matches and an operation will leave him with only three weeks to get back into first team action.

There was no play yesterday at Ramsbottom in the second XI fixture against Durham.
