The Burnley lad was called up for Lancashire's AXA Sunday League clash with Northants on Bank Holiday weekend with Graham Lloyd, John Crawley and Mike Atherton all on England duty - but he didn't get a chance to bat.
Then, when he reported back for second team's one-day match against Derbyshire at Glossop, he was left kicking his heels again.
Harvey was pencilled in for the number six slot but Andy Flintoff's brilliant century guided the red rose county to victory before he could strap on his pads.
Harvey, though, made up for lost time with a brutal 103 not out at Gincroft Lane last Saturday.
Just for good measure Harvey chipped in four wickets, including the prized scalp of professional John Ashley, as Padiham secured fourth spot in the Ribblesdale League title chase.
``I was pleased with that knock because I set my stall out to try and bat through the innings and I managed that,'' said Mark.
``To be honest I've not even looked at the league averages. I've just got on with my game and I'm feeling in pretty good nick.
``We've a young side at Padiham but they are all chipping in and working very hard for each other. ``All the players have responded and they have started to spark off each other.
``We've a tough test against Clitheroe on Saturday and I'm sure we can give a very good account of ourselves.''
It has proved a productive season for the 22-year-old with 356 league runs under his belt.
Harvey is now hoping his prosperous form continues and the all-rounder can make a bid to force his way into the Lancashire side.
He spent his formative years on the Old Trafford staff alongside Jason Gallian, John Crawley, Nick Speak, Glen Chapple and Graham Lloyd.
``It's been a bit frustrating time but there isn't much I can do about it,'' he added.
``But you have to back yourself and I've still enough confidence in my own ability.
``It was great to be in Lancashire's Sunday team and even though I didn't bat I really enjoyed the experience.
``We've a great coach in Peter Sleep and he is magic with all the lads.
``He just knows so much about the game and he is definitely the best coach I've ever worked with.
Harvey added: ``I've definitely found it easier this season because I was with Lancashire from the start.
``I've missed the beginning of the season in previous years because of my university course at Loughborough.
``It's been a lot better this time. I started off with a couple of good scores in a club and ground game against Durham University, and now I've got to knuckle down to earn another first team chance.''
