Scotland pick from strength

SCOTLAND'S selectors are able to pick a full-strength team for the first time this season as they plan for the match with Durham at the Harrogate Festival on June 10.

An excellent performance by the Scots in the recent ICC Trophy in Malaysia, which earned them a place in the 1999 World Cup, led to an invitation to participate at Harrogate, where they will also be joined by Yorkshire and Gloucestershire, who meet on Monday June 9. The winners of each game go through to the final on the June 11.

The four-week stint in Kuala Lumpur placed considerable demands upon Scotland's amateur players and since then there have been occasional selection difficulties because of the players' work commitments. Now at last, the selectors have the best players available.

However, the Scots have also taken the opportunity to introduce one new cap, Drew Parsons, Prestwick's exciting 22-year-old left-handed bat.

SCOTLAND (v Durham, Harrogate Festival, June 10): * G Salmond (Grange), I Beven (Grange), J Blain (Northants), S Kennedy (Ferguslie), A Parsons (Prestwick), B Patterson (Ayr), - I Philip (Stenhousemuir), K Sheridan (Poloc), M Smith (Aberdeenshire), K Thomson (Brechin), G Williamson (Clydesdale).
