Six-figure bill leaves Sussex facing loss

SUSSEX face a bill of more than £100,000 following the abandonment of development plans at the Hove County Ground.

The bill is for architects' and surveyors' fees incurred from the work done on the project. The old county committee had planned a £7 million project, including a new pavilion, restaurants and an indoor cricket school at Hove, and had hoped to secure Lottery funding. But the new committee who took over six weeks ago have shelved the plans.

Sussex chairman Robin Marlar said: ``Within a day of taking over we decided the new project was not viable and that a complete rethink was needed before any application could be made for Lottery funding. We now expect to make a loss this year.''
