Three of the Texaco Trophy, with five wickets to Darren Gough and a
hard-hitting debut knock from Ben Hollioake.
- In a day of high scores in
Round Five of the Sunday League, Alistair
Brown blasts 157 not out for Surrey against Leicestershire.
Lancashire and Essex are the only teams to maintain a perfect record, and share
the lead on the table.

- The Pakistan Cricket Board fly Arshad Khan to Mohali as an additional
player in their Independence Cup squad, however the Tournament Committee
reject the PCB's request for his inclusion at the BCCSL's request.
- In
County Championship action, Steve Marsh and Ben Phillips score 183 for the last wicket for Kent
against Sussex; while Jack Russell leads a Gloucestershire late-order
recovery.
- The Pakistan Cricket Board cancels the tour by the Indian women's
team the day before they were due to arrive. Non-availability of grounds in
Pakistan is given as the reason.

Australia defeat the Duke of Norfolk's XI at Arundel Castle in the traditional tour opener.
- County Championship:
Somerset make a
remarkable comeback from 67 for 6 as Graham Rose (191) and
Richard Harden (103) put on a record 279 runs for the seventh wicket against Sussex.
- Thirty people in Aurangabad have commenced a hunger strike
in protest against Azharuddin's omission from the Indian team, and have written
to the Prime Minister asking him to intervene in the selection.

- The Pakistan Cricket Board suspend Aamir Sohail's ban but instead fine him
Rs50,000 (approx $US1250) for breaching the disciplinary Code of Conduct.
- Former NSW opening batsman Steve Small is named NSW Sheffield Shield coach
for 1997-98, replacing the incumbent, Geoff Lawson who is not re-appointed.
Lawson learns of his non-selection from the media whilst touring Vanuatu with
a charity team.
- Graeme Hick's 91st first-class century as Worcestershire
plunder the Oxford University attack.

- A Tendulkar century gives India victory over New Zealand in
Game Three of the Independence Cup at Bangalore.
- Dominic Cork's groin rules him out of next week's Texaco Trophy one-day
international series for England.
- Pakistan coach Mushtaq Mohammad says he intends to resign after the
Independence Cup because he is not being paid enough.
- The Benson & Hedges Cup
quarter-finalists decided. On the second day of
Round Five,
a last-ball six by Gladstone Small gives Warwickshire a one-wicket
victory over Derbyshire.

- Aaqib Javed rips through the top of the Sri Lankan batting order to
engineer a Pakistan victory in
Game Two of the Independence Cup at Gwalior.
- Round Five
of the Benson & Hedges Cup: Lancashire beat Worcs on a tied total, Sussex make 299 chasing Surrey's 310,
and British Universities give Hampshire a run for their money.
- Leeward Islands beat the Windwards in the weekend's only
Red Stripe Cup
match to finish in a result. Barbados have a commanding lead on the ladder with
two rounds to play.
- The Pakistan Women's Cricket Control Association files a lawsuit against
the Pakistan Women's Cricket Association over control of the women's game in
Pakistan. The court hearing is scheduled to commence May 16.
- In Bangladesh, Chittagong DSA retain the National Cricket Championship
by defeating Bangladesh Biman by an innings and 64 runs with a day to spare
in the four-day final at the Dhaka Stadium. Chittagong captain Akram Khan
was man-of-the-match for his unbeaten knock of 122.

- A run onslaught from the Waugh twins steers Australia to victory in the
40 over-a-side friendly against a World XI at Kowloon Cricket Club, Hong Kong.
Aamir Sohail does not arrive in Hong Kong for the game, despite his late selection.
- Rain washes out two of the
Round Three matches in the English Sunday League, with Northamptonshire
joining Kent, Essex and Lancashire on the top of the ladder.
- Ian Bishop scores a rare century (111) for Trinidad and Tobago in their
Red Stripe Cup encounter with Barbados.

- Gloucestershire the only winners in
Round Two of the County Championship as rain curtails the other six games.
Gloucs head the competition table with 32 points, eleven clear of Glamorgan.
- India defeat Bermuda by six wickets in the
final match of their Caribbean tour.
- The Australian team leave Sydney to commence their three-month tour of England.
- In Kathmandu, Biratnagar defeated Yangal Cricket Club by 50 runs to win
the final of the Mahabir Challenge Cup, the premier domestic competition in
Nepal.

- A fine all-round performance by
Nathan Astle
as New Zealand defeat Pakistan in the
opening match
of the Pepsi Independence Cup.
- Aamir Sohail is chosen for Sunday's World XI against Australia following
his apology to the Pakistan Cricket Board.
- Former basketball administrator Malcolm Speed is appointed Chief
Executive Officer of the Australian Cricket Board, succeding Graham Halbish
who was dismissed in January.
- County Championship:
Leicestershire dismissed for 69 against Worcestershire.
- A Stuart Williams century and Sherwin Campbell retiring hurt for 93 are the
highlights of the opening day of this weekend's
Red Stripe Cup matches.
- Union National Bank win the Panasonic Gold Cup final of the Bukhatir League
at Sharjah Stadium to continue their domination of the UAE domestic season.
- New Zealand women's opening batsman Trudy Anderson announces her retirement
from representative cricket.

David Lawrence makes a brave comeback for Gloucestershire,
five years after his devastating knee injury.
- The two-day final of the schoolboy Spalding Cup competition in Jamaica is
abandoned in sensational circumstances when umpires Felix Whyte and I.Grizzle
fail to appear on the second day, claiming abuse by spectators on the day before.

- Shayne O'Connor is selected for New Zealand's Independence Cup squad after
Simon Doull withdraws with a back injury.
- Round Three
of the Benson & Hedges Cup: Mushtaq Ahmed takes 7-24 as Somerset
defeat Ireland by 221 runs, Lancashire and Yorkshire both win games where scores
finished level. Kent are the first team to win three games out of three.
