It was announced in Toronto that Inzamam-ul-Haq and a spectator had withdrawn charges against each other for a confrontation during the Sahara Cup one-day tournament there in September.

During the match between Pakistan and India, Inzamam allegedly ran into the stands and punched and kicked the spectator, called Shiv Kumar Thind. Witnesses said Thind, 29, had been heckling the Pakistani in the field, calling him a potato through a megaphone.

A video of the game showed Inzamam being led back on to the field after wrestling with a spectator, according to the Canadian prosecutor Fred Braley. Thind was seen chasing after him and throwing the megaphone at him. Both men suffered minor injuries, and Inzamam was suspended for two games.

Winston Davis, the former West Indies fast-bowler, has been left partially paralysed after falling out of a tree while cutting branches at Prospect in his native island of St Vincent.

Davis, 39, who played for Northamptonshire, Glamorgan and Tasmania, was unconscious when he was taken to Kingstown General Hospital with spinal injuries.
