* Hosts Pakistan will come out for the first time in their Golden jubilee four-nation tournament for the Jinnah trophy when they take on South Africa in the second match of the tournament to be played under lights in Lahore's Gadaffi Stadium today.

South Africa should have the edge in this crucial game though Pakistan will certainly make use of the home crowd support to pull off a win. Hansie Cronje's men have won 10 out of the 15 one day internationals they have played this year while Pakistan have won only 13 games after playing 30 matches during the same period.

New Zealanders Steve Dunne and Ian Robinson will officiate in Sunday's game. the quadrangular tournament commenced yesterday with a match between the West Indies and the World champions Sri Lanka. On Monday, West Indies will take on South Africa at the same venue.

* Star Sports Club, Kaduruwela scored a six wicket win over Samanala Sports Club, Polonnaruwa in their Board of Control's Division III cricket tournament match played at Kaduruwela grounds, Polonnaruwa. In reply to Samanala SC's 95 all out in 19.5 overs (Wijemuni Saman 48, Susantha 3 for 19, V. Jayasooriya 3 for 8), Star SC made 97 for 4 in 26 overs (V. Jayasooriya 18, P.Saman 2 for 24, S. Herath 2 for 1).

Kingswood hold out to force draw

Kingswood, held on in their second innings to force a draw in their schools cricket match with St. Joseph's at Darley Road yesterday. In reply to the Joes 243, Kingswood made only 92 and sent in for the follow-on were 176 for 7 at close.

The Josephian paceman Roshan de Silva ripped through the Kingswood batting in the first innings. He had figures of 6 for 21 in 17.3 overs.

Still 151 runs behind the Joes total, Kingswood, sent in for the follow-on were helped by a fine 69 with 10 boundaries by Roshan Perera off 115 deliveries. He put on 78 valuable runs for the fourth wicket with Jaliya Weerasinghe (34).

The Joes right-arm spinner Shenal Warnakula was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 for 26 in 17 overs.

TRINITY College scored a first innings win over Dharmaraja College in their Horlicks Trophy schools under-13 division I cricket tournament match played at Lake View grounds, Kandy recently.

Dharmaraja College: 93 all out in 43 overs (P. Ariyadasa 31, S. Sameera 11, M. Anjoon 3 for 6, M. Jeyakumar 4 for 35, S. Bamunusinghe 3 for 33).

Trinity College: 97 for 9 in 41 overs (P. Clifford 12, S. Munaweera 12, N. Ratnayake 10, P. Punchihewa 12, S. Epa 3 for 16, S. Sameera 3 for 19).

Tailenders Perera and Boteju rescue SSC

TAILENDERS Suresh Perera and Chaminda Boteju (number nine and ten batsmen) scored two unbeaten half centuries, both 51 not out to stage a good recovery and guide SSC to a respectable 240 for 8 wickets against Tamil Union on day one of the segment 'A' under-24 cricket final at Maitland Place yesterday.

Suresh and Chaminda also shared an unbroken 100 runs partnership for the 8th wicket to help swell their side's total.

SSC sent into bat started badly losing opener Shantha Kalavitigoda for 1. Then Malintha Perera (30) with 3 fours and Anushka Polonowita (33) with 4 fours hit useful knocks. Malintha and Anushka added 58 runs for the second wicket. After the exit of Malintha and Anushka, SSC were placed in a precarious position. They lost Mahela Jayawardena (13), Harith Jayasuriya (10) and Ruwan Galappathie (1).

Tamil Union medium paceman R. S. Piyadarshana bowled tightly to dismiss the middle order batsmen. At one stage SSC were 140 for 8 with skipper Suranjith Silva contributing a quickfire 20 with 3 fours.

The Maitland Place club were rescued by Suresh Perera and Chaminda Boteju. The two 'tail-enders' batted with coolness and first were associated in 50 runs stand in 62 balls and 66 minutes. At close, Suresh and Chaminda were still there with a solid 100 runs partnership for the 8th wicket in 25.1 overs and 102 minutes.

Suresh Perera unbeaten 51 included 8 fours while Chaminda had 3 fours and 2 sixes in his unbeaten knock of 51.

Right-arm medium paceman R. S. Piyadarshana bowled accurately for Tamil Union to claim 4 for 57 while leg-spinner S. Kumara finished with 2 for 66.

S. Thomas' beat Dharmapala by 118 runs

S. THOMAS' registered their second victory in five matches, when they defeated Dharmapala Pannipitiya by 118 runs, in their cricket encounter at Mt. Lavinia yesterday.

Dharmapala, continuing from their overnight score of 82 for 3, in reply to the Thomians first innings total of 191, did not make much headway to collapse for 129. The only contribution of note, came from Sanjay Devapura who made 37.

Medium pacers Naren Ratwatte and Gihan Fernando, along with left-arm spinner Suranga Peiris, shared seven wickets amongst them for S. Thomas'.

S. Thomas', enjoying a lead of 62 runs, declared at tea, with their second innings score at 113 for 8 wickets, Nilanka Peiris made 46.

Paceman Jaminda Segera took 4 for 34 for Dharmapala.

Having to make 176 for victory, Dharmapala offered little or no resistance folded up for 57, in the 9.4 mandatory over, having batted for 23.4 overs and 133 minutes.

The left arm spinner Suranga Peiris bowled well again, to take 4 for 36 and had a match bag of 6 for 46.
