Old boys 6-a-side on Sunday

By Richard Dwight

The clash between the Old Royalists and the Old Antonians at 9.30 am, on the St. Peter's College grounds on Sunday November 16, will as a curtain-raiser, set the tempo for the Old Boys Six-a-side cricket tournament.

The Old Nalandians will take on the Old Peterites next to be followed by the Old Anandians encounter with the Old Joes and the preliminaries will wind up with the Old Benedictines meeting the Old Thomians.

Each match will be played to a finish, before the commencement of the other, with the two semi-finals taking place after lunch and the finals after tea at 4.30 pm.

This commemorative tournament, is being organised by the Peterite Old Boys Union, to celebrate their seventieth anniversary and has M. M. Organisation as sponsors, with quite a few co-sponsors assisting as well.

The teams comprise seasoned cricketers, who figure prominently in the local premier tournament and an exciting day's cricket is in store for the many.

It isn't certainly going to be cricket alone, for with the respective decorative tents, the venue will be transformed to provide a carnival atmosphere, so geared for fun and merriment of all.

Messrs Udaya Wickramasinghe, B.C. Cooray, Peter Manuel and K.T. Francis, will constitute the panel of umpires, while former Sri Lankan cricketer Roy Dias, will be the adjudicator .

The chief guest at the opening ceremony, will be the Rector of St. Peter's College Rev. Fr. Felician Perera, while the Minister of Local Government and Provincial Affairs, Alavi Mowlana an Old Peterite, will be the chief guest at the awards ceremony.

Awards will be made to the winning team and runner-up, best batsman, bowler and fielder, man of the final, man of the tournament and the best decorative tent.
