Ramanayake back

Tamil Union, who have somewhat overcome the exodus of some of their young cricketers will be strengthened for the forthcoming season by the return of one of their most experienced cricketers, Champaka Ramanayake.

The former Sri Lanka Test fast bowler completed a fine all-round season with Unsworth in the Central Lanacashire League scoring over 700 runs and capturing 75 wickets.

Ramanayake had eight hauls of five wickets in an innings, the best of which was 8 for 70 and, he also scored six half-centuries for the club.

Ramanayake played for Sri Lanka in 18 Tests taking 44 wickets. He missed out on the 1996-97 season for Tamil Union when he undertook to coach the United Arab Emirates cricket team and also play for Unsworth.

Ramanayake has been asked to play another season with the club next year.
