Bloomfield - exciting one wkt win

BLOOMFIELD scored an exciting one wicket win with two overs remaining over Police in their BCCSL limited over cricket tournament match at Police Park yesterday.

Police made 167 for 8 in their 50 overs, and Bloomfield, helped by a six by R. L. Perera who remained unbeaten on 10, saw them clinch victory. Earlier, Batheesha de Silva top scored with 41 with a six and two fours.

Police 167 for 8 in 50 overs (C. Liyanage 26, S. Gunaratne 19, R. Wimalasiri 27, C. Silva not out 44, D. Gunawardene 30, P. Gunaratne 2 for 42).

Colts - 3 wkt win

COLTS beat CCC by 3 wickets with 2.1 overs remaining in their BCCSL limited-over cricket match at Havelock Park yesterday. CCC made 141 for 6 in 35 overs, while Colts notched up the required runs for the loss of seven wickets in 32.5 overs.

CCC: 141 for 6 in 35 overs (N. Bopage 14, D. Hunukumbura 14, C. Handunettige not out 40, D. Arnolda 17, A. Dalugoda 25, D. Liyanage 2 for 44, S. Alexandra 2 for 24).

Air Force in 6 wkt win

AIR FORCE scored an easy six wickets win over Negombo CC in their BCCSL limited over cricket tournament match played at Katunayake yesterday. Right arm off spinner Tilak Fernando was the match winner for Airmen capturing 5 for 18.

Negombo CC: 138 in 50 overs (I. Batuwitahchi 20, S. Mackay 38, G. Wijemunu 17, T. Fernando 5 for 18, S. Lugoda 2 for 16).

Air Force: 138 for 4 in 43 overs (A. Rizan 24, S. Lugoda 28, S. Ranaweera 23, N. Jayatilaka 22 n.o., T. Fernando 19).

Madawala United SC beat Old Trinitians by 24 runs

MADAWALA UNITED Sports Club, Madawala created one of the biggest shocks in club cricket in the hill capital in recent times when they beat the more fancied Old Trinitians Sports Club by 24 runs in their Board of Control's Division III cricket tournament match played in Kandy yesterday.

The Madawala United team comprised mainly cricketers from Madeena Central College and they put up a creditable performance against their much stronger opponents. Match winner for the Madawala team was spinner Mohammed Arshard who captured 5 for 17 to have the Old Trinitians on the hop.

Madawala United SC 99 all out in 40 overs (M. Arshard 22, M. Isry 15, A. Jayasena 2 for 14, B. Gunawardena 4 for 14, M. Samath 2 for 10).

Old Trinitians SC 75 all out in 38 overs (Angus Jayasena 21, M. Aslam 2 for 8, M. Premkumar 2 for 1, M. Arshard 5 for 17).

Rizwan's 75 saves day for Zahira

M. RIZWAN came to Zahira's rescue and made 75 in the second innings to help them force a draw in their inter-school cricket match against Maris Stella at Negombo yesterday.

Zahira made 148 in their first innings and Maris Stella replied with 205 for 7 wickets. In the second innings, Zahira made 207 with Rizwan making 75.

In the second innings, Maris Stella had no time and made 19 for 3 wickets in 6 overs.

Zahira 148 in 57 overs (M. Rizwan 27, M. Pheroze 27 not out, M. Rizwan 19, M. Faroon 21, Dhammika Gunewardena 4 for 13, M. de Silva 3 for 26) and 207 (M. Rizwan 75, M. Zuhaid 25, M. Hussain 23, Chanaka Gunewardena 2 for 20, Dhammika Gunewardena 2 for 50, J. Livera 2 for 33, I. Fernando 2 for 29).

Maris Stella 205 for 7 wkts dec in 40 overs (Lakmal Fernando 41, Canarick Croon 41 not out, M. Bulathsinhala 30, C. de Silva 31, M. Rilwan 5 for 49) and 19 for 3 wkts (M. Badurdeen 2 for 4).

Nimesh Perera 6/17

GOOD BOWLING by Nimesh Perera (6 for 17) helped Sebastianites beat Matale CC by six wickets in the Cricket Board's limited-overs cricket tournament match played yesterday at the Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa.

Matale CC: 115 (M. Markawita 21, Nimesh Perera 6 for 17).

Sebastianites: 116 for 4 wkts (Nimesh Perera 21, S. Silva 42 not out, Marlon Peiris 24).
