The letter, signed by Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) president and chief executive officer Alloy Lequay, was not solely addressed to Nanan, thanking him for his services and indicating that they were no longer needed.
It was a copy of a circular letter to members of the executive committee with the names of the coaches and managers selected for the various teams for the 1998 season.
The current manager/coach of the team only saw his name on the list as one of the three reserves-the other two are Dudnath Ramkissoon and Suren Dhaniram-for the manager's post, held by Ellis Lewis.
Listed as national senior coach for 1998 is former West Indies opening batsman Bryan Davis. Clem Hercules, Debideen Manick and former West Indies bowlers Anthony Gray and Raphick Jumadeen are named as the reserves coaches.
Aneil Rajah has been retained as Under-19 coach, with Alec Burns as manager while Harry Narine (manager) and Nedd McCree (coach) will be in charge of the Under-15s and Arjoon Ramlal (manager) and Pradeep Vishnu (coach) will work with the Under-13s.
Nanan, who once held the record for most wickets taken in the four-day regional tournament (known then as the Shell Shield), told the Express that he not been in contact with Lequay or any other member of the T&TCB concerning the matter.
The former national skipper was unaware that the circular letter received by other members of the committee contained an invitation to ``a briefing/training session'' at the Queen's Park Oval at 5 p.m. on Thursday. Nanan told the Express that his copy made no mention of the session or of the programme for it.
Asked to comment on the meaning of the differences in the letters-only Nanan's copy, it seems, lists the reserve managers and coaches for the senior team-Nanan declined.
Lequay was said to be ``busy'' on both occasions that the Expresscontacted his office and he did not accede to our request to return the calls.
