ABN Amro Asia Pacific cricket tourney on Oct. 11, 12

THE inaugural ABN AMRO Asia Pacific cricket tournament organised by the sports and recreation club of ABN Amro Bank Sri Lanka will be held on October 11 and 12 at the NCC grounds, Maitland Place. This quadrangular tournament is not only the first of its kind but is also the first such international event organised by a bank in Sri Lanka.

The 30 over matches will be conducted on a knock-out basis with India, Pakistan, Singapore (Regional office) and Sri Lanka battling for honours. The champions will receive the ABN AMRO Bank Trophy and there will also be a special award to the man of the match.

The ABN AMRO bank Sri Lanka team have already named a 15 member strong team for this tournament captained by Vinod Sivapragasam. They will take on India in the opening fixture scheduled for October 11 at 9.00 a.m. The Indian team will also include several Ranji trophy players and a number of top players who have participated in the inter-bank tournaments.

The Pakistan team will arrive on Thursday followed by the Indian team and the Regional office side from Singapore. The Pakistan side will clash with the Regional office team from Singapore in the second semifinal on October 11 at 1.00 p.m. The consolation final for the third place and the final will be worked off on October 12.

The ABN AMRO Bank hopes to make this tournament an annual event with the participation of more countries. The chief administrative officer of the region Ton Deboer will be the chief guest for the final.

The ABN AMRO Bank Sri Lanka team will be selected from the following: Vinod Sivapragasam (captain), Sudharsha Perera, Pravin Fernando, Shalinka de Silva, Murray Fernandesz, Dyan Wijesuriya, Nishan Fernando, Rukshan Dias, Duleepa Ratwatte, Mahesh Rosairo, Sohantha Wijesinghe, Mahesh Fonseka, P.Thaynanthan, Naresh Subramaniam, Shehan Wijesekera.
