* Galle CC trounced Matugama CC by an innings and 50 runs in their Cricket Board under 24 cricket tournament match concluded at the Galle Esplanade on Sunday.

Matugama CC, batting first, made 49 all out in 15.3 overs. T.Indika had 6 for 32 and C.Vithanage 3 for 10. Galle CC, in reply, made 253 for 7 in 52 overs with valuable contributions from D.Silva 90, C.Vithanage 45, B.Ratnayake 31 and D.Sudarshana 29. For Matugama team, C.Chandana captured 3 for 83. Matugama CC could score only 154 all out off 44.1 overs in their second innings. S.Chandana made a fighting 40 n.o but could not save his team which lost by an innings. M.de Silva 4 for 46 and S.Weerakoon 4 for 24 shared the bowling honours for the winners.

* Former Sri Lanka Test captain Ranjan Madugalle will function as the ICC match referee for Pakistan's three-Test home series against South Africa starting in Rawalpindi tomorrow. Madugalle, one of the most sought after young match referees by the ICC, also functioned as the ICC match referee for the recent three-match one day international series between Pakistan and India for the Wills Challenge trophy.

* Si Lanka national cricket pool will resume their training on Monday for the four-nation Jinnah Cup one day international tournament to be held in Lahore, Pakistan early next month. The BCCSL has requested the national poolists to be present at the NCC nets at 10.00 a.m. today.

Arjuna Ranatunga will lead a 14 member strong squad for the Independence Cup cricket tournament to be held from November 1 to 8. The other in the 14-member squad are Aravinda de Silva (vice captain), Sanath Jayasuriya, Marvan Atapattu, Roshan Mahanama, Hashan Tillekeratne, Lanka de Silva, Kumar Dharmasena, Muttiah Muralitharan, Chaminda Vaas, Sajeeva de Silva, Dulip Liyanage, Upul Chandana, Russel Arnold. Apart from them, Ravindra Pushpakumara, Eric Upashantha, Pramodaya Wickremasinghe, Ruchira Perera, Mario Villavarayan, Nuwan Soysa, Dilhara Fernando, Namal Sadikeen, Jiffery Thahir, Avishka Gunawardena and Mahela Jayawardena too have been requested to report for practices today.
