Kingsley chief guest at House of Commons cricket dinner

Sri Lanka's Minister of Commerce and Trade Kingsley Wickremeratne has been invited as Chief Guest to the first ever dinner held in the Palace of Westminster in honour of Sri Lankan Cricket. Minister Wickramaratne who will be in the UK for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting will break away from his busy schedule to attend the prestigious event.

The dinner has been organised by the Cavaliers Club based in the UK. The Cavaliers has promoted Sri Lankan cricket for several years and the entire Sri Lankan test team led by Arjuna Ranatunga have played under the Cavaliers banner at the annual Festival of Cricket, now a major sporting fixture for the 100,000 strong Sri Lankan Community.

This dinner will raise money for Sri Lanka's Cricket tour of the UK in August 1998. Sri Lanka will play one solitary Test in the UK and participate in the one-day tournament. The gala dinner will be attended by British MPs, cricket lovers and members of the Sri Lankan Community - all the raffle prizes are air tickets to Sri Lanka on Air Lanka, British Airways and Emirates.

The captain of the Sri Lanka team, Arjuna Ranatunga and the 'master blaster' Sanath Jayasuriya have been invited to attend this important House of Commons dinner to be held on Saturday 25 of October.
