Six runs off the last ball

Six runs in the last ball by L. Mapadeniya enabled Old Uvites Sports Club to tie with Old Duthians Sports Club in their annual limited over softball cricket encounter played at the Veal's Park grounds.

Old Duthians SC batting first scored 110 runs with Ranjith Fernando top scoring with 31 runs. In reply Old Uvites SC were in sound position, but their middle order batsmen collapsed and had to score 13 runs in the last over. However six runs in the last ball enabled them to tie the game which was conducted in connection with the Old Uvites SC and Old Boys of Uva College annual get-together.

Australian Police cricket team on tour here

The Australian Police cricket team will arrive in Sri Lanka for a four match tour commencing on September 4. They will take on the Sri Lanka Police team in the opening match at Police Park Bambalapitiya.

This tour has been organised by the AOM French Airlines in Sydney in collaboration with Lanka Travel GSA, for AOM French Airlines, Sri Lanka, and the Ministry of Sports.

The Australian Police cricket team will also play the Mercantile team on September 6, Trico on September 8 and Seylan Bank on September 10.

Seylan Bank beat Hyderabad CD XI

SEYLAN BANK beat a Hyderabad Combined District XI by 9 wickets in a limited over Cricket match at the NCC grounds yesterday.

Hyderabad Combined District XI 89 off 34.3 overs (T.Jaipal 19, V.Naresh 15, Clyde Variath 2 for 7, Naveed Nawaz 3 for 12, Tilan Samaraweera 2 for 2)

Seylan Bank 90 for 1 off 12.1 overs ( Lanka de Silva 59 (11 fours), Pubudu Dassanayake 25 n.o)

Old Maroons CC win Colombo Zonal

'Old Maroons' Chess Club led by former National Champion Lakshman Wijesooriya came first in the Colombo Zonal all-island interclub chess tournament held at Presidents College, Rajagiriya.

27 teams participated in the tournament. Second place was shared by university of Moratuwa Chess Club and Royal College Chess Club after 5 rounds held according to the Swiss System.

Former Galle CC all-rounder Anil Rideegammanagedera turned up with a fine all-round contribution (66 and 5 for 64) to bring NCC a first innings points win over Tamil Union in an under 24 tournament cricket match played at the Sara Stadium over the weekend.
