* Sri Lanka has broken a 22-year-old tradition to honour Sri Lanka's champion opening batsman Sanath Jayasuriya who has been invited to be one of the 'Torch Bearers' at the opening ceremony of the 23rd National Sports Festival which begins at the National Sports Complex at Reid Avenue on Thursday.

``We are breaking tradition to honour a great sportsman of Sri Lanka Sanath Jayasuriya,'' said Derwin Perera - Assistant Director of Sports. Normally, national cricketers are not invited to be a torch bearer as cricket is not an Olympic sport. The other 'Torch Bearer' will be Sri Lanka's silver medallist at the World Athletics Championships in Athens - Susanthika Jayasinghe.
