CRICKET: Ricardo Powell slammed a century as Holmwood Technical ended yesterday's first day of their Headley Cup semi-final against Titchfield High on a commanding 323 for seven, after bad light ended play in their three day game at Alpart Sports Club.

After being sent in to bat by their Portland-based opponents, Holmwood's opening pair of Roger Solladon and Dwayne Ewart posted a stand worth 58 runs in 176 minutes off 148 balls, which included four boundaries, before Ewart was caught in the slips by Emelio Reid off medium pacer and captain Jeremy Jones for 24.

This brought Powell to the wicket, but shortly after, Jones trapped Solladon leg-before wicket for 23 with the score at 65. However, Matthew Sinclair and Powell, their captain, halted Holmwood's slide with a commanding 155-run partnership that launched the Manchester team to a comfortable 220 for three before pacer Garnett White removed Sinclair leg-before for 45.

Powell, the dominant partner, graced the spectators with a repertoire of strokes as he raced to his 100 from just 87 balls with 11 fours and a six, before Kerone Lindsay had him caught by Andre Williams in the covers for 138. It included four sixes and 13 fours, and came off 114 balls.

Other useful scores came from Junior Lawrence (21), Evon McInnis (15) and Lancelot Warrent, who was left unbeaten on 24.

For Titchfield, Jeremy Jones was the pick of the bowlers claiming three for 66 off 18 overs. Other wicket-takers were Garnett White, Kirk Johnson, Kerone Lindsay and Dwainan Stona, who all had a wicket each.

In the other semi final match at Manchester High School, many time champions St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) were bowled out for 184 by Ocho Rios High, who were 16 without loss at the close.
