Saracens CC champs at six-a-side

Saracens Cricket Club, Kandy, became champions at the inter-club six-a-side cricket tournament for the Dr. J. C. Blok Trophy organised by the Kandy District Cricket Association when they beat Kandy Youths Cricket Club by 11 runs in the finals played at the Asgiriya Stadium.

This two-day sixes tournament attracted 18 clubs and some big hitting was witnessed and the only half century of the tournament came off the bat of Sumedha Weerasiri of Saracens when he thumped 50 not out off the attack of the Old Rajans.

The scores from the semi-finals:

Kandy Youths CC 59 for 3 (Swanji Madanayake 30) beat Old Trinitians SC 58 for 4 (Rodney de Raffayal 24) by two wickets.

Saracens cc 69 for 1 (Sumedha Weerasiri 50 not out) beat Old Rajans SC 48 for 4 (P. Munidasa 14, S. Bandara 2 for 7) by 21 runs.

Finals: Saracens CC 70 for no loss (Sumedha Weerasiri 39 not out, Chaminda Kodikara 30 not out) beat Kandy Youths CC 59 all out (Buddhika Ekanayake 24, D. Wijekoon 1 for 0).

Best Batsman: Sumedha Weerasiri (Saracens CC).

Best Bowler: Chaminda Kodikara (Saracens CC).

Highest Score of the Tournament: Sumedha Weerasiri (Saracens CC, 50 n.o.).

The following represented the Saracens CC: Deliepa Wijekoon (captain), Sumedha Weerasiri, Aubrey Kuruppu, Chaminda Kodikara, Sarath Bandara, Chitranath Wijeratne, Mahes Bogahalanda.
