Upeka superb 117

In-form batsman Upeka Fernando struck a superb 117 and shared a fourth wicket partnership of 102 with Nilanka Peiris (41) to steer S. Thomas', Mt Lavinia to a 40-run win over St. Peter's in their Coca Cola schools limited overs quarter-final match played at De Soysa Stadium yesterday.

Battle of the Golds won't be played

The 11th 'Battle of the Golds' cricket match between Sri Rahula, Katugastota and Sri Sumangala, Kandy will be not be played this year due to a disagreement on dates by the two schools.

Battle of Mangosteens this weekend

Kalutara's 40th Big Match between Kalutara Vidyalaya and Tissa M.M.V. popularly known as the Battle of the Mangosteens will be played on Saturday and Sunday (April 4 and 5) on the Kalutara Esplanade, with play scheduled to stand at 9.45 a.m. on both days.

This year Kalutara Vidyalaya has a few coloursmen in their side with efficient batsmen and bowlers. So-far they have won 21 matches in the series.

Tissa M.M.V. also have a few coloursmen and good spin bowlers in their side. They have six victories to their credit this season. Tissa MMV have six wins in the series.

This year Kalutara Vidyalaya played in division one Coca Cola schools tournament coming third in the all round standings. They have played 13 matches winning two and the rest ending in draws. Their only defeat was at the hands of St.Peter's.

Nalaka Weragala is the captain of Kalutara Vidyalaya team. He is a 4th year coloursman and has scored 540 in the current year. Vice captain Malinga Bandara played in only eight matches.

He has taken 40 wickets and scored more than 300 runs. He was a member of the Sri Lanka (A) team and under-19 team to South Africa. Susantha Pradeep scored 750 runs and has taken 35 wickets this season. His scores included one century and seven half centuries. Dilshan Thilakaratne has made six half centuries in his 550 runs.

Tissa MMV played in the division III school's tournament and played nine matches. They won four matches with five ending in draws.

Tissa MMV is led by Jeewaka Priyankara, who has scored two centuries and three half centuries in his 650 runs. Vice captain Kapila Gayan has taken 52 wickets this season. Nilantha, Nuvan, Parakkrama and Sidhesh have all scored over 500 runs each this season.
