Trinity beat visiting Magpies

A good knock of 58 with 5 fours and 1 five by Sameer Samath guided Trinity College to a six-wicket win over the visiting Magpies Sports Club from United Kingdom in a limited-over cricket match played at the Asgiriya Stadium on Wednesday.

Magpies CC 143 for 7 in 35 overs (C. Macarthy 20, P. Haddow 15, F. Geer 26, M. Bran 31 not out, Extras 34, M. Rodrigo 3 for 15, M. Azhar 1 for 25, D. Weeraratne 1 for 10).

Trinity College 144 for 4 in 24.2 overs (S. Samath 58, C. Munaweera 14, C. Molligoda 33, C. Vanderkoon 22 not out, S. Craigwell 2 for 31).

Janaka Pathirana appointed Regional Secy. Kandy

Former St. Sylvester's College cricketer Janaka Pathirana has been appointed Regional Secretary for Kandy Region of the National Development Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka.

The objective of the National Development Committee which will be headed by the President of the BCCSL Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala will be to prepare a National Development Plan for the progress of the game, and to evaluate the present development programme, tournament structures, facilities rendered by the Board, infrastructure and materials through the District Cricket Associations.

The following have been elected as Honorary Secretary of the NDC:

Region No. 1: Mr. Anura Weerasinghe (office in Colombo)

Region No. 2: Kandy - Mr. Janaka Pathirana.

Region No. 3: Galle - Mr. Jayananda Warnaweera.

Region No. 4: Dambulla - Mr. Sujeewa Godaliyadde.

Region No. 5: Badulla - Mr. R. M. M. Ratnayake.
