The 8th ``Battle of Sri Jaywardenepura'' annual cricket encounter between St. John's College, Nugegoda and Ananda Sastralaya Kotte, will be played at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium on April 7 and 8 commencing at 10 a.m. each day.

St. John's College captain and deputy are two freshers while the team composition is a few second year players and the rest freshers. St. John's is led by Visuddha de Mel, a fresher with well disciplined leadership qualities. He is a right arm pacie and a good bat. His deputy is another fresher Samith Prasanna who is also a right arm paceman opening the bowling attack for the Johnians with Hiran Peiris a third year coloursman. Opening the batting attack will be Duminda Roshan along with Charith Senaratne a hard-hitting bastsman and the stand-by wicket keeper.

Mahesh Abeywardene, a fresher who is the stumper of the side has many victims to his credit this season. The spin attack for the Nugegoda Johnians will be led by Duminda Roshan, a right arm off spin who is capable of troubling any batsmen along with Lalinda Sampath a left arm leg spin bowler.

This year they have played six matches but have not recorded a victory as yet. They hope to give an exciting performance to beat their opponents in their big match and gain a victory this year. Presently they are placed at the bottom of group C of the Coca Cola Bottler's Trophy Inter-School League Tournament.

The other batsman who could build up the score are Sapuman Udawatta, Anuruddha Peiris, Kaun Vishwajith, Lalinda Sampath, Mahesh Abeywardene and Kumar Wickramasinghe who is also a right arm medium pace bowler.

An energetic master in charge Sunil Jayaundera spares no pains in getting the boys to come for practices and the Principal Mr. Athulathmudali Samarasinghe has given his fullest support to improve cricket at the school.

Ananda Sastralaya Kotte this year is led by third year player Manjula Namal who has scored 950 runs this season with 41 wickets as the opening bowler of the side. He has scored one century and 5 five half centures. His deputy this year will be sixth year player Ishanka Roshantha who has scored over 1350 runs with five centuries and six half centuries.

The others who could build up the score are K. Pradeep Silva with 750 runs with five half centuries, K. Nilantha Silva 650 runs with 2 half centuries, C. Pradeep Kumara 1010 runs with one century and five half centuries, Supun Kumarapperuma 450 runs with one half century.

Skipper Manjuka Namal along with Wasantha Perera leads the opening bowling attack, for the Kotte Sastralians while the spin attack will be led by K. Pradeep Silva who has taken 41 wickets. Pradeep Kumara Fonseka has taken 40 wickets this season. Others who could trouble the batsmen are Spun Kumarapperuma, with 57 wickets, and Imran Samsudeen.

This year the Sastralians have played 16 matchs with six wins and one loss and the rest draws. The Master in charge of cricket D.M.D.M. Jayaratne and the Principal of the school take keen interest along with coach Elmo Jayasundera, to improve the standard of the team.
