Youth off to Aussie cricket academy

Sixteen cricketers and a coach will leave for Australia this morning to undergo a month- long training at the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy in Adelaide. The training is scheduled to start from August 3.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will bear all the expenses of the training. It was gathered that other than the travel cost, BCB will pay 50,000 Australian dollars to the academy as course fee.

In the absence of a Selection Committee, the selection of the cricketers, mostly aged below twenty, have been made by the BCB president Saber Hossain Chowdhury in a bid to discover fresh talent before next May's World Cup.

Former Australian Test cricketer Wayne Philips has been appointed by the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) as the supervisor of the course while former Australian wicketkeeper Rodney Marsh will act as the head coach. Besides, a Richard Dann will look after the physical aspects of the cricketers.

The following is the list of the trainees: Azam Iqbal, Shahriar Hossain, Sajjad Ahmed, Parvez Ahmed, Naimur Rahman, Al-Shahriar, Sanwar Hossain, Ridwan Hasan, Fahim Muntasir Rahman, Towhid Hossain, Rashidul Haque, M. Mortuza, Shafiuddin Ahmed, Hasibul Hossain, Morshed Ali Khan and Zakir Hossain.

Nazmul Abedin Fahim, a cricket coach of BKSP, will accompany the team as co-ordinator.
