Scores: Lucas 107 and 147; Melbourne 259 for nine declared.
Melbourne exploited Lucas' poor batting form to register a comprehensive innings and four-run win, in their two-day County Championship cricket encounter which ended at Melbourne Oval yesterday.
The result moved Melbourne to 13 points placing them in a strong position to top the championships going in to this weekend's final round. Lucas remained on seven points.
The Derrymore Road-team had veteran paceman Junior Hall, who had match figures of 8 for 68, to thank mainly for their success.
Hall, playing in his first match of the season, engineered Lucas' first innings demise by capturing six for 20.
Openers Aubrey Wollaston (63),and former West Indies Test batter Robert Samuels, helped them to strengthen that position by posting a triple-figure stand, which paved the way for a 109-run lead by the end of Saturday's first day when they had totalled 216 for five.
Windward Islander Casper Davis (five for 70), who accounted for two of Melbourne's first five wickets for 55 runs on Saturday, had better returns yesterday in the home team's knock that was abbreviated with a healthy 151-run advantage.
Lucas' response to that mammoth deficit was just as woeful as the first innings when one person (Christopher Gayle - 50) made a respectable individual score.
Alford Givance armed-up that responsibility by scoring 45 in their second innings, as others around him fell cheaply to the spin/pace combination of Marlon Samuels, who claimed three for 23 to add to his first innings two for 12, Hall (two for 48) and Ray Stewart (two for 48).
