Cricket training camp for seniors begins

LAHORE, Aug 21: With no proper schedule of net practice, the training of the Pakistan senior team at the Qadhafi Stadium is being managed by the players themselves.

In all, 25 probables were called for the camp which started on Aug 20, to finalise Pakistan team for five-match series for Sahara Cup against India at Toronto (Canada) from Sept 12.

Team coach Javed Miandad, who is in London, is expected to join the camp on Aug 27, the day the team is to be announced. The team will leave for Toronto on Sept 7.

Leg-spinner Muhammad Husain who returned home from Dubai on Thursday and seasoned middle-order batsman Ijaz Ahmad Senior joined the camp on Friday.

The players, who were attending the camp, are captain Aamir Sohail, Salim Malik, Waqar Younis, Mushtaq Ahmad, Yousuf Youhana, Abdul Razzaque, Ali Rizvi, Fazl-i-Akbar, Wajahatullah, Muhammad Husain and Shabbir Ahmad. All senior players were seen concentrating on physical fitness.

A training camp also in progress at the Qadhafi Statium. Twelve players out of the 14-member Pakistan ``A'' team for the Commonwealth Games, are attending the camp.
