The Regional Cricket Board II (Kandy) conducted a cricket coaching camp for schoolboys in the Kegalle District at the Kegalle Esplanade last Friday.
According to the secretary of the Kandy Regional Cricket Board, Janaka Pathirana, this coaching camp was a tremendous success with over 200 young cricketers attending it. They were put through their paces and their batting and bowling techniques corrected where it was found necessary. They were also taught the finer points of the game.
This coaching camp was conducted under the direction of Chairman Coaching Committee C. P. R. Raj with M. Zarook being the co-ordinator. The coaching aspect of it was handled by Regional Cricket Coach Sunil Fernando and was assisted by C. N. Dissanayake, Upali Kodituwakku, Chaminda Kodikara and Upali Witharne.
Some of the youngsters who attended this camp said that it was extremely useful and they learnt a lot of new things. This coaching camp was limited for boys between 13 and 15 years and it will become very useful for them with the inter district cricket tournament due to start this month.
Ananda Sastralaya enter finals
Ananda Sastralaya, Kotte entered the finals of the Singer Trophy under-17 Division Two final by beating S. de S. Jayasinghe MV, Dehiwela by four runs on the first innings in the semi-final played at Kotte.
Ananda Sastralaya batting first scored 145 runs with Imran Samsudeen top scoring with 61 runs. In reply S. de S. Jayasinghe MV could muster only 141 runs with Wasantha Warnapura capturing 6 for 55.
