Sri Lanka has gained the lead in the newest CEAT International cricket team of the year 1998 rankings.
The world rankings of the world's best cricket team are based on their performance in both Tests and one day international cricket.
World champions Sri Lanka has gained 20 points to head the latest world rankings. England, after their 2-1 success in the home five-Test series against South Africa, has climbed upto the No.2 spot with 18 points.
In the third place is India with 16 points after winning four one day international tournaments this year, including Sri Lanka's Independence trophy tournament. South Africa have gone down to the fourth place with 15 points, followed by New Zealand with nine points.
