Vaas in England for medical treatment

It is with the objective of obtaining medical treatment for fast bowler Chaminda Vaas' injured foot - that he has been sent to England.

Sri Lanka Team Manager Ranjith Fernando said that the physiotherapist of the Sri Lanka team Alex Kontouri will look into the present state of Vaas' foot injury and refer him to a suitable doctor.

Vaas will not take part in the Sri Lanka - England - South Africa one day tournament which started yesterday but is likely to play in the three day match against Hampshire from August 22nd to 24th. If he is proved physically fit in this match he will have a chance of participating in the England - Sri Lanka Five Day Test to be played at the Oval from August 27 to 31.

According to latest information that part of Vaas' foot that had been operated on swells when he plays.

It is reported that the national selectors were not very keen in sending Chaminda Vaas here to represent the Sri Lanka team as he is unwell and that it was the Board of Control for Cricket who made arrangements to send him to England.
