Justice Malik Mohammed Qayyum said in Lahore: ``The Australian board have reacted positively to the summons I issued and have agreed that Warne and Waugh can either appear in person, present evidence via video, or we could send a commission to Australia to take evidence. The video link looks the best and quickest solution.''

The prompt Australian response has mollified the Pakistanis, who were outraged to discover last week that the Australian Cricket Board had covered up for four years Warne and Waugh's involvement with an Indian bookmaker, which had resulted in the pair being fined by the ACB.

But even if the Pakistanis have now solved the Australian problem, there are still internal hurdles to be negotiated.

Aamir Sohail, the former Pakistan captain, is yet to appear for a second time before Justice Qayyum and Wasim Akram, another former captain, is to ask the Pakistan High Court to allow him to cross-examine certain witnesses who have appeared before the commission. Wasim's motion is due to be heard soon.
