Sri Lanka: Petes looking to pocket another trophy

St. Peter's will look to extending their run of success for the current year, when they meet St. Anthony's, Katugastota in the Horlicks trophy two-day under 13 division I cricket final beginning today at Police grounds, Kandy.

The Peterites this year have shown excellent results at both senior and junior levels by becoming the first eleven league champions, the under 15 division I champions and under 13 division II semi-finalists.

They owe most of their success to the untiring efforts of coach L.H. Sunil, who is a qualified Level IV certificate Advanced Diploma Course holder.

The team is led by wicket-keeper batsman Gihan de Silva and among the key players are vice-captain Rakitha Rupasinghe, all-rounders Rajan Thuraisingam, Shanaka Prasad and Sheehan Wijetunge, batsmen Prajeeve Jansze and Dinesh Panditharatne and bowler Sohan Boralessa.

The rest of the squad comprises: Shanaka Fernando, Jnaitha Hettiaratchi, Kanishak Jayasumana, Rajan Thuraisingham, Hans Fernando, Charith Samarasekera, Muditha Chinthake, Dilshan Fernando, Gehan Jayaratne, Shehan Brohier, Mevan Samarasekera.

On their way to the final, St. Peter's beat Ananda, Prince of Wales, Joseph Vaz and were held to a no-decision by De Mazenod in the first round, beat St. Joseph's, Colombo, Dharmaraja, Kandy, and Kalutara MMV in the second round, and beat St. Anne's, Kurunegala in the semi-finals.
