PAKISTAN v NEW ZEALAND
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1998

At Sialkot, December 6. Pakistan won by 46 runs. Toss: Pakistan.

The previous game had been shortened by sunshine; this one was cut to 47 overs by dew. But the Pakistani openers had no problems. Saeed Anwar hit 11 fours and Zahoor Elahi seven fours and five sixes as they ran up an opening stand of 177. Both fell just short of hundreds, and local hero Ijaz Ahmed delighted a capacity crowd of 25,000 with a run-a-ball fifty. No one else passed five, though, as Harris wrecked the middle and lower order. New Zealand lost both openers cheaply, but Parore and Fleming added 118. Once they were gone, however, Pakistan made sure of the series by dismissing the tourists with nearly five overs in hand.

Man of the Match: Saeed Anwar.
